I think shes coming around! someone yelled, way too close to her ear to be welcome. Lorelai slowly opened her eyes, expecting to see the girl-lump before she remembered that she couldnt understand the language in her dream world. A woman, the school nurse, backed away as Lorelais sister helped her up. Rebecca gathered her into a tight hug and somehow managed to admonish her at the same time.
Dont you EVER do that to me again, Rebecca hissed into her ear, squeezing Lorelai into an even tighter hug.
What happened? Lorelai whispered back, more confused than ever. Well, not ever, she still couldnt understand why the girl-lump was so afraid of her...
Rebecca stared back at her in disbelief, startling Lorelai out of her contemplations. Lorelai had a sinking feeling in her stomach; what was Rebecca not telling her? Could it really be that bad?
You really dont remember?! Rebecca asked, her tone bordering on the hysterical.
You were walking to your next class and you fainted! You nearly fell down a flight of stairs! The only reason youre not a pancake is because of Kilian! Not even one day at this school, and hes already saved your life. One day? Is he new here? Then Lorelai remembered; Kilian was the transfer student she was supposed to be helping. Someone had probably pointed her out in the hall and hed chased after her; it was only sheer luck that he had been there to save her life. How had she not remembered him?
Any more of these memory lapses and I might very well be a pancake. Lorelai glanced around, trying to regain her bearings.
Where is everyone? Lorelai asked, not knowing that she said it out loud until a beautiful voice answered her.
The nurse sent them all to their classes. Whipping her head around, she found the source of the voice; Kilian. Bizarrely, she thought again of her dreamland. His voice was similar to those that she had heard in the marketplace the first night of her dream. Kilian stooped to gather their books. He must have dropped his when he caught her. He gallantly handed her the textbooks she had dropped and continued on his way.
Hey! Kilian! Kilian turned back to look at her.
Im supposed to show you where to go! He chuckled and kept walking.
The nurse said you and your sister can leave early, he called back over his shoulder as he kept walking.
Sweet! Rebecca yelled as she punched the air.
But I still dont forgive you, Lore. Rebecca bounded down the hall to her locker to collect the books she needed for her homework tonight. Lorelai shook her head, and made her way down the hallway to her locker. Still dazed from todays events, Lorelai was already turning the combination on her locker before she noticed Kilian leaning on the locker next to hers. With a start, Lorelai looked up to see him grinning down at her.
Well, we certainly are observant today, he said. Ready to fire back a witty reply she hadnt thought of yet, Lorelai looked into his eyes. She was shocked to see their color; one was brown, and one was green: hazel in the oddest sense of the word. For ages it seemed; she was caught in his eyes, as he was in hers. A shout from down the hallway broke their concentration, and Lorelai felt herself blush; she hadnt meant for him to catch her staring. Kilian shook himself, waved, and walked away. Lorelai wondered if he was embarrassed; his cheeks were red enough. For what, she didnt know; catching her staring at him, or that she had caught him staring at her. Lorelai gathered her things and hurried outside, ready to relax at home in a nice, warm bubble bath. She had only gone to one class, so she didnt have any homework to do.
