On the way home, Lorelai and Rebecca chatted about Rebecca's short day, the boy she liked, her friends, and her horrible teachers. She and Rebecca hadnt spent a lot of time together; ever since Rebecca started at the high school and Lorelai got a job at the shelter. It seems so long ago, but I had the same teachers, Lorelai thought to herself. I wonder what itll be like when I leave all this behind
By the time her parents got home, Lorelai was already asleep. Rebecca didnt know why, but her sister was spending a lot more time sleeping lately. When she was asleep, Lorelai saw the town again. She spent her nights getting to know the faces of the people in the marketplace.
Even though she was sleeping at night, Lorelai always felt exhausted. She had homework, Kilian, an after school job at the animal shelter, and a nosy little sister. When she wasnt dodging Rebeccas questions, doing homework, or spending time with Kilian, she was sleeping. She was in the dreamworld more and more often, and her grades were beginning to slip.
Her father, a dentist, always made sure she had good teeth; and that was the extent of his fatherly affection. Her parents hardly noticed a difference; they didnt see her enough to notice the change in her behavior. Rebecca was the only person to notice her new sleeping habits. That and the stranger that was following her in the marketplace. The more she visited the dreamworld, the more she noticed.
She was much better at reading peoples emotions; all that practice in the dreamworld was paying off. When she couldnt understand the words they spoke, she had to rely on what their faces said. The more time she spent in the dream, the better she understood the people. The only person Lorelai couldnt read was Kilian. She didnt know what, but it always seemed like he was only telling her half of what he was really thinking.
